I hope that the demonstration of 10 March in Rome, and the way in which the print media has portrayed the next day has finally opened the eyes of all who believe in the need for recognize rights to de facto unions. Mind you, I believe that the demonstration was necessary and that it has reached at least three of its goals:
- support those in government and in Parliament, genuinely believe in the necessity of this reform, and this was needed;
- create unity of purpose between the souls of the movement, which has the extraordinary view of the absolute failure of the proposed government and the chronic, lifelong litigation;
- propose to the general public the reasons for the need to ensure equal opportunities for unmarried couples.
But in the square we had the usual suspects, and the press the next day, more or less, gave ample room for a transgression that was not there, making heroes for a day Mastella and the Catholic hierarchy nell'inedita role of victims.
In other words, with the event we have not made any real progress, in fact we measured once more the extent of our actions, for many reasons, failed to go beyond the circle of political forces on which we already know they can count.
This result is not attributable to the will of the organizers of the event was just doing it, and it could only do so, but we must face certifying that a reality, without a shadow of further denial, the very low possibility that the House adopt what little rights that the proposed government plans. Possibility of further decline after the next event clerical-Catholic in favor of the traditional family, where of course there will be tens of thousands of people and politicians from all sides.
What to do? I am among those who think politics is to build as possible, not to dream the impossible, and this is why, despite being among the signers of the manifesto for equal rights ( www.matrimoniodirittogay.it ) turandomi and not just the nose, I think I SAY I'm the best that the Italian company now makes. I am not among those who think that we should reject even this possibility, among them those (and frankly I do not see many) who hope in the next Parliament ...
The paradox that we did not want to face, taken the day of the electoral vote, is that in this term of our key stakeholders should have been the forces of the center-right, or at least those in that group showed more open positions on the recognition day rights of de facto unions. Was not this the only alternative to the enormous veto power that a handful of senators from the center-left loyal to the dictates of the Catholic hierarchy do you have? Was not this the alternative strategy (winning, because winning ...!) Of Margaret, who played like a cat and mouse, reducing month after month value and importance of the proposed government?
The trouble is that the margins to work towards involving parts of the facility right now are slim. The plaintive appeals for freedom of conscience and dialogue with shyness that some members of the center-left to launch the center-right is not likely to be the manifestation of a serious and transparent strategy, but only the first step of an action of unhooking the same parties in the proposed of DICO. The paradox that we face today, however, is that we do not have other speakers that the same people who have followed us up here: it is to them that we have to ask parliament to work seriously to create the consensus necessary to adopt this reform. Work seriously and believe it means, get involved, go beyond the limits of majority, to make a genuine parliamentary lobbying serious cross, ready to talk, and then to mediation. Retrieve the error that he wanted to force the hand of Parliament (where they already knew that there was no majority) with a government proposal and start over from scratch, with an agreement between the parties sitting in parliament.
I know that this is the most difficult: I do not see any on the horizon "Vicenza" for civil unions, no real forcing in the direction of approving those forces I say that is that until today (RC, PDCI, GREEN ) gained more from this government.
The only thing we need today is the limit, right and left, which also thrive abundant among Italian gay (maybe a little 'less between lesbians and trans). Those who instead of looking for what the Italian reality watching the moon and not the finger, take refuge in the usual controversy hegemonies and ghostly against antidemocraticità Arcigay, or if they laugh because 'the government of the left does not lead to any concrete result on home soil for the rights and secularism.
There is little to laugh, very little.
