LAMBDA FACTOR! Why
One of the things that struck me most during the Turin Pride 2009 is the participation of volunteers to the organization. I do not know if someone has counted them but surely we are all less than 100 and all those who have given at least a couple of hours of unpaid work in the three weeks preceding the event on May 16. And if I'm not wrong for most of them ours was the first Pride.
This has already happened with the Turin Pride 2006, also increased in size, and some of those who came to Pride that have continued to work with associations existing, or even setting up new ones.
This means that the Pride in Turin have fulfilled one of their main functions, taking on increasing significance for a range of gay and transsexual population much larger than that in itself sensitive to political and social issues.
The festive nature of this event has developed over the years has greatly helped this spread. The very fact that many of the new volunteers / and have come to the circles of dancing and facebook, may mean that the wall between the world of entertainment and political world, at least for LGBT people, it is a bit 'crumbling.
This news is important for many reasons, not least one linked to the construction of a sense of belonging to a community - that goes beyond their sexual partners - ch involves. If one of the places and places of entertainment to politics, but also with those of culture, there is osmosis means that increases the level of awareness and empowerment of the total population on homosexual rights, individual, couple and group.
I believe in particular that really a city as Turin, where the interplay between these worlds is experienced especially in the years between 1978 and 1982 with the experience of the club - then bar - managed by the Outside!, And the LGBT Film Festival, has much to say about this aspect of the relationship between political movement and the gay world. And perhaps it is no coincidence that in those years was celebrated the first Pride of place in Italy, in Turin ...
The feeling I had with the Pride 2009 is that the degree of awareness of social and political value of the Pride, not only one party animal-liberation, was higher than in the past. If my feeling is real - and has been confirmed by many of the members of the Coordination with whom I spoke in recent days - it is for groups to fully understand this phenomenon and enhance it.
accept that people participate in social and political activities without asking their membership to predefined templates, and even enhance them for what they can express a change of pace is essential that those who care about the social, cultural and political aspects of LGBT community (in other words, the same construction of the community) can not fail to accomplish: the community, in fact lives when it is free, and when any of those who are called to be a part fails to express himself in ways and times it considers most natural. The militant model that we embody is neither the only nor the best, nor should it be.
's so that the humus is created within which to be born (maybe they are already born) the new leader of the movement. Those who are more years on the crest of the wave should feel this responsibility: to let grow and empower new forces. What we can do (because experience counts, and how if it counts ...) is to seek the Lambda Factor that is in them, the item more difficult to define, which transforms a person to be politically and socially sensitive, leading to . We are able to see it in Lambda Factor in those who are close to our side?

PS: Lambda is a greek letter of the alphabet, starting with a verb that means free, free, dissolve. No coincidence that the movement of the '70s has chose this point as one of its symbols: free from the chains that society has imposed on us, but above all free from our chains inner daughters of guilt, of self-concealment and self-condemnation that often.
